Subject: Office of Research Internal Grant Program – link to application

As you may have read in SU news, the Office of Research introduces a new initiative to help support faculty research opportunities and advance collaborative scholarship. This competitive program, open to all University faculty members, is designed to provide faculty with modest financial support to cover travel costs, acquire new or expand available preliminary data, or support nascent interdisciplinary collaborative activities.

Funds available:  $150,000 will be allocated annually to support projects of up to one year duration with $15,000 for seed funding projects and $135,000 for small scale projects and bridge funds.  At its discretion, the Office of Research may adjust these allocations or project funding caps.

Over time, this program is expected to: i) increase faculty success in securing external support for their work, and ii) enhance the University’s reputation for excellence in research, scholarly or creative activities including in multi/interdisciplinary projects.

Requests can be made at three levels for projects of up to one-year duration.

  1. Seed funds: Up to $1000
  2. Small scale funds: Up to $15,000
  3. Bridge funds: up to $30,000. Requires 1 to 1 match from the PI(s) school or college or other source.  These funds are to enhance the competitive renewal of grants, and minimize the gap between award segments.
